While Tue Beijer was working on the scale model in Stockholm, Bizzarrini was building the chassis in Italy. Bizzarrini had earlier
decided on designing a composite mid section tub and attaching rear and front sub frames to this. The concept was to
make a very light, strong, rigid and safe chassis. It would also be easily repairable in case of damage. The preprototype
tub was constructed from an earlier formula 3 chassis and widened to make place for two persons. The sub frames were
made up from special aluminium tubes in a classic sports racer design. The final rolling chassis weighed just 300 kg
including engine and gearbox. Using the monocoque tub also as the midsection body, we understood that the complete car
should weigh less than 400 kg! In the late spring of 2000 the preprototype chassis was finished and so was the clay model. The big thing was now to unite the two. The legend and the student. The technical solution and the styling. Bringing photos of the clay model we had a meeting with Bizzarrini at his studio outside of Livorno. Heart pounding and butterflies in the stomach, knowing the temper of the Ingenere. But this time there was no need for worrying. When seeing the photos Bizzarrini exclaimed –Bravo. His spontaneous reaction was that Tue Beijer was a new stylist sensation just like the once young Giugario was. It was an amazing feeling. |
